The figure is slightly short of the maximum target for last year which was 7.7 million tourists, that was, among others, caused by the economic crisis still ongoing in Europe and the United States. But total receipts from tourism spending, actually rose 13.16% to US$ 8.6 billion, up from US$ 7.6 million in 2010.

According to Suryamin, in 2011, the Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali recorded the highest number of arrivals at 2.78 million, becoming Indonesia’s main tourist entry port, followed by the Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Jakarta that received 1.93 million arrivals.

According to the Passenger Exit Survey from the Ministry for Tourism and the Creative Economy, average expenditure per person per day for 2011 was US$ 142.69, up 5.69% compared to the previous year at US$ 135.01.But average length of stay decreased 2.49% from 8.04 days to 7.84 days.

For 2012, Indonesia remains optimistic to reach 8 million visitor arrivals, despite the expected downturn in tourists from Europe, which is one of the country’s main source markets. Marketing efforts will be more strongly directed to the ASEAN countries, East Asia, Russia, Australia and the Middle East.

Source:antaranews.com
Rod Stewart enthralls Jakarta with his magnetic Charm http://us.my-indonesia.info/en/news/detail/630/rod-stewart-enthralls-jakarta-with-his-magnetic-charm
Bringing his everlasting romantic hits to Indonesia for the first time ever, the legendary pop mega star Rod Stewart enthralled the audience with sheer charm and captivating performance at the Jakarta Convention Center, Jakarta, last Tuesday night, 31 January 2012

The atmosphere was romantic and exclusive that night, with a simple yet elegant stage set and a giant screen as backdrop coupled with a portrait screen in front of it that captured all the actions of the performance.

The audience was placed in well arranged seating and tribunes, adding to the intimacy of the show, and was dominated by those in their 40’s and 50’s, who apparently had been waiting for decades for the legendary pop singer to perform live in Indonesia.

At around 20.00 hrs.Western Indonesia Time, the neatly suited band members appeared one by one on stage. The attractively dressed backing vocal ladies followed quickly and Rod Stewart himself then finally appeared singing “Love Train “, thus commencing the show under a rain of applause. “Tonight’s the night” perfectly answered the fans longing, then Rod greeted the audience: “Thank you ladies and gentleman, welcome to the show, we’re going to be here for two hours”, which was replied by roaring excitement from the crowd. The show rolled on with “Havin’ a party”, “It’s a heartache”, “Some guys have all the luck”,” The first Cut is the deepest” and “Baby Jane”.

The audience turned into a massive choir as they sang along with every part of the everlasting hit “I Don’t Want to Talk about It”. Rod even stopped the music and let the crowd sing for him during the refrain. “Very kind, ladies and gentleman, very generous, very generous as well for the air conditioning, I got a frostbite when I came in” said Rod joking about the freezing air conditioning, which was met by roaring laughter from the audience.

The show did not only present Rod’s flawless singing abilities, but it also showcased the splendid play of the band members in performing music instruments solo such as on saxophone and violin. Even with a plaster cast over some of his fingers -due to a prior accident- guitarist Paul Warren still managed to pull a captivating solo. During the “Down Town Train” a double solo drum was energetically performed by drummer Dave Palmer and percussionist Matt O’Connor.

The stage was altered into a more intimate set, when chairs were pulled out for the acoustic session. As the band members gathered, Rod jokingly said “This is very similar to the last minutes of the Titanic, here” which was replied by laughter from the band and the audience. As the piano intro was played, the audience went again into a frenzy, because it was “Have I told you lately”, a romantic hit that was sure to melt every woman’s heart. With his raspy and soft voice, Rod mesmerized the audience as they sang along and drowned into the romance of the song. The session went on with “Reason to Believe”, “Rainy in Georgia”, and “Ooh La La”.

The atmosphere was heated up again with the classic three-chord rock n roll tune “Sweet Rock N’Roller”. Rod changed his costume into a batik patterned suit which received enthusiastic ovation as he played “Rhythm of My Heart”, while “Twisting” and “You’re in My Heart” followed. Rod intimately introduced his family members to his audience as the screen showed pictures of his daughters, sons, and granddaughters, all wrapped in the jerseys of Celtic Football Club, his favorite football club. As “Hot Leg” was played, Rod showcased his football skills when he kicked and gave away over 40 exclusively signed footballs to the audience. Hilariously, one of the balls that he kicked bounced back onto the stage ridge and hit his head. The crowd went crazy as they competed to catch such valuable souvenir from the legendary artist. After “Sexy” was played Rod said thank you and good night to the audience, and left the stage, -but the show was not yet over.

Craving for more, the shouts of “We Want more” grew louder as the lights were dimmed. Rod Stewart and the band appeared once again on stage with the phenomenal hit “Sailing”. The audience turned into a massive choir once again as they were carried away with the beautiful voice of Rod Stewart. The audience even got up off their seats and stormed to the front of the barricaded stage. The performance hit its pinnacle with the song, while Rod, the backing vocals and the band took a bow, but still generously presented one last encore with a classic blues tune “Shake Your Money Maker”, before finally ending the splendid show.

Opening the year 2012 with such a fantastic performance, the Rod Stewart show has confirmed Indonesia’s position as an ideal place to stage grand scale performances of international stars. If 2011 was decorated with a slew of international shows, this year the number can only grow as more and more international artists are lined up to take the stage live in Indonesia.

indonesia.travel special coverage
Cap Go Meh 2563 Festivities in West Kalimantan: 7 Dragons and 750 Tatungs Parade http://us.my-indonesia.info/en/news/detail/626/cap-go-meh-2563-festivities-in-west-kalimantan-7-dragons-and-750-tatungs-parade
The 15th day of the Lunar New Year, or better known here as “Cap Go Meh”, forms the highlight of any Chinese New Year celebrations in Indonesia. This is most elaborately held in areas with a large ethnic Chinese population such as in West Kalimantan, Bangka-Belitung and Palembang or in the Chinatowns of Semarang, Surabaya, Jakarta, Bandung, Manado and Medan. In West Kalimantan, the Cap Go Meh, which this year falls on 6 February 2012, will be celebrated with a vibrant 3-day festival in the cities of Pontianak and Singkawang, from 4 to 6 February 2012.

In Pontianak, the festival this year will be highlighted with the appearance of 7 dragons (called liongs) who will dance in the heart of the city as part of the Archipelago Cultural Festival (Pesta Budaya Nusantara), while in Singkawang, 750 mystical participating Tatungs will parade through the town’s major streets.

In the capital city Pontianak, prior to the grand processions, the so-called Eye Opening ritual will be held at the Kwan Tie Bo Temple on 4 February 2012. On 5 February noon, the 7 dragons will commence their actions together with other art and cultural performances in the Archipelago Cultural Festival. Being a multi-ethnic event, the festival will not only focus on ethnic Chinese culture, but will also be participated by other ethnic groups including Malays and Dayaks, and those from Madura, Bugis, Batak, Javanese, and Sundanese descent.

At the pinnacle of the festival on 6 February 2012, the Dragons will parade from the Temple at the Diponegoro Street, then on to Gajahmada and Hijas Street, before they wind their way across Tanjungpura Street. In the evening, the dragons will perform at the Pontianak Kapuas Square.

In Singkawang, the town known for its production of fine Chinese ceramics, a lantern parade will take place in the evening of 5th February at 19.30 to 23.00 Central Indonesia Time starting from the Mayor’s office through some of the major streets of the town, finishing at the Happy Building. The peak of the festival and the entire New Year series of celebrations will occur on 6 February with the parade of the ancient art of Tatung.

Intended to repel misfortunes for the rest of the year, Tatung is the main medium of the Cap Go Meh ritual to reject evil spirits. During the Tatung rituals, its participants will enter into a trance and perform many unbelievable stunts, such as stepping on a sword, or sticking steel wires or nails into their cheeks. It is quite unbelievable to see that despite such torture, the Tatungs are not wounded or even scarred.

This year, over 750 participants are projected to take part in the ritual. The Tatung Parade will commence from Kridasana stadium at the Gusti Sulung Lelanang Street, then move on to the Diponegoro Street, Niaga Street, Setia Budi Street, and will finish at the front of the altar near the dragon statue at Niaga Street.

Celebrated annually on the 15 day of the Chinese Year, Cap Go Meh literally translated means the 15th night, on which the first full moon of the year occurs. As the pinnacle of the entire Chinese New Year Celebrations, this truly amazing cultural event is surely worth traveling to watch and experience.

For more Information, check:
http://tourism-pastikesingkawang.com/
http://disbudpar.kalbarprov.go.id/
Tourism to Ambon in the Moluccas revives as scheduled port of call for Cruise Ships http://us.my-indonesia.info/en/news/detail/627/tourism-to-ambon-in-the-moluccas-revives-as-scheduled-port-of-call-for-cruise-ships
Last Sunday, 29 January 2012, the cruise ship mv. Therefore, to preserve this beauty, Efranzah urged the government to conduct a thorough mapping of the area to ensure that the ecosystem is well maintained.”To preserve the ecosystem of Lake Toba, the district government of Samosir needs to map the area of Lake Toba and establish which zones may be used for commercial fishing and which zones are to be maintained for its natural scenery” said Efranzah.

According to Efranzah, Sweden have many beautiful lakes, but none equal Lake Toba by comparison, since in winter the temperature in Sweden can drop as low as 4 degrees Centigrade. As the day turned into night, more and more people crowded, and the excitement grew bigger. When the gates were finally opened, the enthusiastic young spectators raced to the tribunes, eager to get the best spot to enjoy the show.

Music started to play around 08.00 pm. First appearing was Indonesia’s rising rock Band: Kotak. Performing 5 songs, Cella, Tantri and Chua really warmed up the arena and got the crowd jumping off their feet, especially on their energetic closing number “Beraksi”.

The anticipation was almost unbearable, when Simple Plan was about to enter the stage. Endless chants of “Simple Plan!” echoed across the hall. A teenage girl not able to cope with the hysteria, fainted and received medical treatment, even before Simple Plan appeared.

At precisely 09.00 pm Western Indonesia Time, Pierre Bouvier, David Desrosiers, Jeff Stinco, Sebastian Lefebvre, and Chuck Comeau finally stepped on stage with “Shut Up” accompanied by roaring hysteria from the crowd.”Can’t keep my hands off you” followed quickly, and afterward Pierre, the vocalist, greeted the audience in fluent Bahasa Indonesia:”Terima kasih, Apa Kabar?” (thank you, how are you?). Then continued to play “When I’m gone”,”Addicted”,”My alien”, and “You suck at love”.

Pierre really said Terima Kasih a lot that night, the band even converted the songs Thank You into Terima Kasih, and managed to get the audience to sing along to the song.

As the band play “Astronaut”, Pierre asked the crowd to turn on all their cell phones so they would radiate many colorful lights. These lights represented the stars in the sky which is a perfect visualization of the emotional song which has become the title for the Simple Plan fans. The atmosphere was dramatically altered into a beach party, as “Summer Paradise” was played.

Tantri, the lady vocalist of Kotak, appeared once again on stage and collaborated with Simple Plan in their latest hits “Jet Lag”. As the soft and crunchy voice of Pierre met the heavy and high pitched voice of Tantri, the result was pure awesomeness.

With a mixture of Bahasa Indonesia and English, Pierre said “aku cinta Indonesia, we love the food, we love the girls, many wanita cantik” (I Love Indonesia, we love the food, we love the girls, and there are many beautiful girls here). Under a roaring hysteria they played “This song saved my life”, “Welcome to my Life”, and “I will do anything”. Then, the lights were dimmed, and the band left the stage.

Craving for more, the chants “We want more!” grew louder from the audience. The band emerged once again on stage with “Loser of the year” and the song that brought them to fame for the first time “ I am just a kid”. The song “Perfect”, was perfectly played for the finale of the performance, before the band bade farewell to end the show.

After Jakarta, Simple Plan went on to play in Surabaya on Wednesday, 18 January 2012. Performing for the 3rd time in Indonesia, Simple Plan never ceases to amaze their loyal fans and audience. Stating that their performance will not be the last in Indonesia, the band promised to return to Indonesia in the near future.
<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:WordDocument> <w:View>Normal</w:View>
